How To Make Your Mornings More Productive

Vanessa Guevara April 12, 2016

At 9:00am the alarm goes off, you set the snooze button 5 times before waking up, and you lay there in bed contemplating what you'll undergo throughout the day. You'll check your social media, e-mails, texts for about an hour or so and to your surprise, it's already Noon. Where did the time go? What did you do in the past 3 hours? What could have you done to make those first 3 hours of your day more productive?

If this scenario felt like deja voo to you, then you're in the right place. Below I have a few tips you can implement into your daily routine to make your mornings feel more like an "Opportunity" rather than a struggle.

How To Make Your Mornings More Productive

Get a healthy amount of sleep

Easier said than done right? But it's a proven fact that having at least 7-8 hours of sleep will help you get the energy you need throughout the day. Proper sleep allows your organs, and brain cells to recharge themselves for the following day.

* TIP: Set a daily goal to fall asleep on a specific time that allows you to sleep at least 7/8 hours. It's your responsibility to make sure all your chores are completed prior to that specified time. Drink tea, meditate, whatever it is that helps you release yourself from any anxiety or stress prior falling to sleep until it becomes a routine.

Create a to-do list every night before going to bed

I call this my ultimate weapon when battling drowsy mornings. To-do lists are a very powerful tool that will help you stay focused and overcome procrastination. It will motivate you to get off that bed and take control of your morning!

*TIP: Get a notepad that you will keep beside your bed at all times. Before getting to bed every night, write down a "timeline" of how you plan to take control of your morning. I'll provide a sample below!

6:00am: Wakeup
6:05am: Check e-mails, and messages.
6:20am: Go for a run
7:00am: Shower and get ready
7:20am: Eat breakfast
8:00am: Take clothes upstairs
etc.

Having a timeline like this will give you a clear view of what your morning will consist of. Allowing yourself a specific amount of time for each task. This is what I call "Self-Discipline"!

... Drink 5 cups of Coffee. No, I'm kidding. Okay maybe.

Make meditation a part of your morning routine

What exactly is meditation? Meditation is a mental expression of yourself within your thoughts. Meditations are known to be peaceful, and calming. It's an inner vacation in your mind where you use your imagination to set you free from any anxiety, stress and depression. I often over work myself, so meditating every morning has been a true life saver for me.

*TIP:  Allow yourself 10-15 minutes every morning to lay down, or sit in a comfortable quite place a.k.a your happy place. Inhale deeply through your nose until your lungs can no longer let in anymore air, and exhale slowly through your mouth. Do this 10 times while closing your eyes, and focus on your mind, and body while relaxing it as you breathe. You can either talk to yourself and tell yourself how much you value your life or how thankful you are for your family and friends etc. Or if your a pro you can even take a mental vacation to the beach. Meditation is very powerful, it does require practice. But if you truly want to achieve peace in your mind, meditation will help.

I hope these tips will help you gain a more productive morning! If there's something that you would like to add that has helped you make your mornings more productive, please feel free to comment below so we can all help one another! Thank you for reading, and may you have a beautiful and blessed day!
